7. Mood of Jagannath Puri dham
Mood of Jagannath Puri dham:
In Jagannath Puri Dham, three things are present in one place:
1. Aiśvarya, the great opulence of Lakshmi Devi's consort in Dwarka;
2. Audarya, the munificence of the most merciful Patita Pavana Jagannath and Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu; and
3. Madhurya, the sweet mood of the vraja- gopis in separation, especially as displayed during Gaura's gambhira-lilā.
However, unlike other places, the unique quality of Jagannath Puri is that the opulence there makes the devotees' love even more intense. Feeling abandoned, they cry out to their intimate beloved with secondary names that express great opulence, thus chastising Him.
Jagannath is Krishna, but having left Vrindavan and gone to Dwarka/Puri, he is now addressed by His devotees as Jagannath and Patita Pavana, the Lord of the universe and the savior of the fallen. Both the devotees worshipping Krishna in the mood of the opulent Lord of the universe and those following in the mood of the vraja-vāsīs call out to Him using the names "Patita Pavana" and "Jagannath". Yet, when the Lord's confidential vraja-vāsi devotees address Him in this way, it doesn't weaken their love. Rather, it increases it. Their calling Krishna by these names is a form of crying. This is the mood of the prayers of Radharani and the gopis at Kurukshetra, and it is the mood of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu at Jagannath Puri.
