Daily Schedule of Lord Jagannath temple:

The following is a summary of a normal day's schedule:

1. Dwara-pitha:

The temple doors are opened at about 4:30 a.m. 

2. Bhitar-sodha:

The temple interior is cleansed and purified. 

3. Mangal-arati:

Lamps are offered (21 camphor, 21 ghee-7 to each deity).

4. Mailama:

Deities are dressed for bathing.

5. Abhiseka:

The deities are bathed by bathing their reflection in a silver mirror; just before bathing, the deities' teeth and tongue are also cleansed (dantadhavana and jihva-lekhana).

6. Mailama:

The deities are dressed in pure silk, fresh flowers, and ornaments.

7. Homa in the kitchen:

As the deities are dressed on the altar, cooks begin their activities in the kitchen area. 

8. Surya-puja:

The sun-god is worshiped at about 8:30 a.m. 

9. Dwarapal-puja:

The guardians of the various doorways are worshiped.

10. Gopal Vallabha Bhoga (breakfast at 9 a.m.):

Offering of;

Fused rice

Coconut

Butter

Yogurt

Banana

Sweets

Papuri (preparation made with skin of milk unique to Puri)

Nutmeg 

All served in bell-metal bowls; betel nut is also offered at every meal.

11. Sakala-dhupa (regular breakfast at about 10 a.m.):

Dahl cakes

Gram cakes

Kitchuri (rice and dahl cooked together)

Spinach with hing

Idli (type of rice cake)

Payasam (similar to sweet-rice boiled in milk)

12. Sakala-arati:

Lamps are offered. 

13. Mailama:

The deities' dresses and flower garlands are changed. 

14. Bhoga-mandap bhoga or upala-boga (anytime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.):

Offering of rice, dal and curries for sale to the public; this offering is not placed directly in front of the deities as are other offerings, but is placed in the area called bhoga-mandapa.

15. Madhyahna-dhupa (lunch at about 12:30 p.m.):

Rice with ghee (clarified butter)

Dal

Sweet and sour vegetable

Dal cakes

Rice-flour cakes

Sweets made of rice, rice flour, or wheat, with either sugar or gur. 

16. Madhyahna-arati-Lamps are offered. 

17. Madhyahna-pahuda-Afternoon rest.

18. Pahuda-phita:

The deities awaken around 6 p.m.

19. Sandhya-arati:

Lamps are offered.

20. Sandhya-dhupa (dinner at about 7 p.m.):

Large varieties of rice

Cakes

Sweets

Cheese cake 

21. Arati-Offering of lamps

22. Mailama:

The deities dress and flower garlands are changed. 

23. Candan-lagi:

Sandalwood paste mixed with camphor, saffron, and musk is offered. 

24. Bada-Simhara dhupa (evening snack around 11 p.m.):

Sweet cakes

Sweet curd products

Milk sweets

Banana cutlet

25. Khata-seja-lagi:

Beds are offered for the Lords' rest along with flowers, tender green coconuts filled with juice, and music from Jayadeva Gosvami's Gita-govinda.

26. Deva-dasi dance:

Previously, specially trained girls would dance as the Lord relaxed before going to sleep late at night. However, this is no longer practiced.
